RIBLE: ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATS CONTINUE TO IGNORE NEW JERSEY’S PROPERTY TAX PROBLEM

ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATS MAKING PROBLEMS WORSE FOR MUNICIPALITIES AND ARE DOOMING RESIDENTS TO ANOTHER YEAR OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASES

November 5, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Assembly Democrats are doing nothing to help property taxpayers and local officials deal with senseless court-ordered affordable housing mandates and other property tax drivers when a hard property tax cap is set to begin in less than two months, Assembly Republican Whip David Rible said today.

“Municipalities are being forced to waste valuable time and tax dollars to comply with court-ordered affordable housing mandates when we all agree COAH needs to be changed,” Rible, R-Monmouth, said. “But Assembly Democrats refuse to fix the glaring problems in our state.

“Instead of getting to work on real property tax reform that will allow our bipartisan property tax cap to succeed, Assembly Democrats plan to hold hearings on medical marijuana, the process of the BPU and hinder our economic revival by instituting another Democratic tax on the kinds of development we need to rebuild New Jersey,” Rible added.

With just five legislative days scheduled before the cap begins Jan. 1, Rible said the Legislature has no time left to waste.

“It’s bad enough that Assembly Democrats won’t post legislation that will help property taxpayers, but it’s insane that they are now going out of their way to make our problems worse,” Rible said. “If property taxes rise next year, despite commitments from Governor Christie and Republican legislators to fix the system, all fingers will be pointed squarely at the Democrats who control the legislative agenda.”
