DiCICCO: ASSEMBLY COMMITTEES CONTINUE AVOIDING TOOL KIT BILLS

-

November 5, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — With four Assembly committees cancelling their meetings on Monday and no property tax reform Tool Kit legislation under consideration by the remaining panels, Assembly Republican Domenick DiCicco, R-Gloucester and Camden, today said Democrats continue to ignore their responsibility to provide relief to homeowners who pay the highest property taxes in the country.

“Last year, the public sent a message by giving Governor Corzine his walking papers, and last Tuesday their unhappiness was reaffirmed at the county and local levels,” said DiCicco. “But Democrats in the Legislature refuse to listen to what taxpayers are asking for. The committee agendas for Monday cover a wide range of topics, but they all fail to address the most important issue to taxpayers, which is to help local governments control spending. Their blatant disregard for enacting the Tool Kit legislation and reforming government is why people loath Trenton politicians.”

DiCicco cited a Democrat-sponsored bill (A-3434) that seeks to review arbitration issues involving consumers and define what actions are unconscionable.

“Assembly Democrats talk about being on the side of taxpayers and wanting to enact reforms, but their actions tell a much different story,” continued DiCicco. “It is time for them to demonstrate some courage and allow the governor’s Tool Lit legislation to be heard. Instead, what taxpayers get from the majority party is a bill that attempts to define ‘unconscionability’ in arbitration proceedings involving consumers.

“Democrats are badly misinformed if they think this is the arbitration reform taxpayers want. Their focus should be on arbitration changes that help local governments control costs, not telling judges how to exercise common sense.”
