Rebuilding Together and Crate and Barrel Revitalize Devastated Homes in Bergen County, NJ
Rebuilding Together Marks the 200th Community Revitalization Project in Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy
Moonachie, NJ – July 15, 2013 – On Tuesday, July 16, more than 50 employees from home furnishings retailer, Crate and Barrel, will join with Rebuilding Together, a Safe and Healthy Housing organization that believes Community Starts at Home, to renovate three homes devastated by Hurricane Sandy on Bruno Street, in Moonachie, New Jersey as part of Rebuilding After Sandy. This marks Rebuilding Together’s 200th revitalization, which includes both homes and community centers, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
The Moonachie families whose homes were ravaged by Hurricane Sandy include parents and their two young children who had 7 feet of water push its way into their home and damage all that they had worked so hard to acquire; a widow who is in need of a new bathroom as well as flooring and sheetrock on her entire first floor; and, a daughter who lives with her 92-year old mother who both had to be rescued from their second floor and also have not been able to return to their home.
During the workday on Bruno Street, Crate and Barrel volunteers along with Rebuilding Together and its Bergen County affiliate will replace flooring and sheetrock, install insulation, repair and replace kitchens and bathrooms, paint, landscape, and complete many other renovations .

Fiegel, Interim president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. “We appreciate their financial and physical commitment to rebuilding the lives and the communities of these Bergen County families.”
Crate and Barrel has pledged a minimum of $1.5 million over the next three years to Rebuilding Together. Throughout the partnership, Crate and Barrel and Rebuilding Together are joining forces to support – with both financial contributions and volunteers – national “build” projects that will provide critical repairs, accessibility modifications and energy-efficient upgrades for low-income homeowners and community centers at no cost to recipients.
Rebuilding After Sandy: Bergen County is a part of a commitment by Rebuilding Together and its affiliates in New York and New Jersey along with national and local partners to rebuild at least 200 homes by 2014.
“With today’s project in Moonachie, Rebuilding Together is pleased to announce that our affiliates have met our original goal of repairing and rehabilitating 200 homes and community centers across the region,” added Fiegel. “However, due to the severity of the damage, we stand committed to meeting the needs of additional homeowners as long as there are funding resources available.”
