At the Atlantic Builders’ Convention today, New Jersey Future and the New Jersey Builders Association (NJBA) jointly released a new Developers’ Green Infrastructure Guide. Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino and the Division of Consumer Affairs have filed a complaint alleging that a contractor doing business in Ocean County used deceptive practices to obtain more than $750,000 in federal relief funds from 14 homeowners who sought to have their damaged homes rebuilt, elevated and/or repaired after Superstorm Sandy.

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs today announced the 42nd Housing Recovery Information Session will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017, in Brick Township to assist storm-affected homeowners participating in the Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Elevation and Mitigation (RREM) Program and the Low- to Moderate-Income (LMI) Homeowner Rebuilding Program, as well as rental property owners participating in the Landlord Rental Repair Program (LRRP).

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) announced today it has extended the deadline for a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) related to the purchase and development of an 8.75-acre site on the Camden Waterfront. Eligible respondents must now submit qualifications by 2 p.m. on April 12, 2017.

A Hudson County, New Jersey, man, who served as the senior accountant of the City of Bayonne Department of Community Development (CBDCD) was sentenced today to 21 months in prison for accepting $65,000 in bribe payments in exchange for his assistance in awarding projects funded by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grants, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced a free Housing Resource Fair will be held Thursday, February 23, 2017, in Newark, Essex County, to provide Sandy-impacted residents with information about helpful housing resources. While applications for grant funds and housing vouchers are no longer being accepted, resources such as housing counseling, utility assistance, and housing search help are still available.

The New Jersey State Senate voted in favor of a bill that requires county emergency management coordinators to establish a Code Blue Program to shelter homeless people during severe weather events. Approved by the Assembly back in December, the bill now goes to Governor Christie to be signed into law

Continuing the State’s crackdown on Superstorm Sandy fraud, Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino and the Division of Consumer Affairs have filed two separate actions against home improvement companies and their owners alleging they used deceptive business practices in order to obtain $1.4 million in federal relief funds from 51 homeowners who paid them to repair and elevate their storm-damaged properties.

Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino and the Division of Consumer Affairs announce today the issuance of 136 Notices of Violation to contractors during 2016, resulting in total penalties of $483,350 and total restitution of $1,421,938.41

Last week, staff from New Jersey Realtors®’ government affairs department attended the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste committee hearing to testify regarding lawn sprinkler system legislation. The bill, which was introduced in the early 2000s in response to a drought, would require residential and commercial properties with a lawn sprinkler system to install a rain-sensing device before that property could be sold.
