Atlantic Builders Convention Adopts, Promotes “Green” Products and Practices

Robbinsville, NJ – February 4, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) – Demonstrating a commitment to “green” business practices within the home building industry, the Atlantic Builders Convention (ABC) is soliciting and promoting eco-friendly companies to participate in the convention. Now in its 60th year, ABC is the largest trade show of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region, attracting more than 12,000 participants and 700 exhibitors. ABC will take place April 22-24, 2009 at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, NJ.

The companies featured at ABC 2009 are as varied and diverse as the products and services they represent. Even so, they are committed to be more ecologically-responsible while remaining fiscally-minded.

“In this challenging economic climate, companies are looking for ways to reduce expenses and minimize waste,” stated Jeanne Tomlinson, ABC Chair. “The products and practices featured by our ‘green’ exhibitors and seminars will help attendees realize cost-savings ways to have a positive impact on our environment…and that’s a win-win situation.”

Examples of the “green” products and practices being featured at the ABC include:

  • The NAHB Green Building for Building Professionals two-day seminar and certification program
  • A Green Building Technical Requirements & Case Studies session
  • The Building Green Exteriors Using Fiber Cement Products educational and certification program
  • Cowan, Gunteski & Co, P.A. – a “paperless” accounting firm
  • Design Floors – a Certified Green Professional company
  • EAM Associates – an energy consulting company that does “Green Building” verification
  • GreenEarth Force/Thesing Power Sweeping – a total facilities maintenance and management company that provides green services and solutions, including an EPA compliant pressure washing system
  • NJ ENERGY STAR Homes – rating energy-efficient products and encouraging their use
  • Warshauer Electric & McGrann Associates – demonstrating various green building programs; and
  • Wells Fargo Home Mortgage – the only financial services company to receive the 2007 Green Power Partner of the Year award from the EPA.

“The home building industry has long been at the forefront of the ‘green’ initiative,” stated Stephen A. Patron, NJBA President. “From sustainable flooring and recycled lumber products, to windows and insulation, appliances and heating/cooling systems, architecture and engineering, and landscaping and lot orientation, builders, suppliers and associated professionals seek to incorporate energy-efficient products and practices into homes. The goal is to help homeowners realize long-term cost benefits while being ecologically-minded.”

The New Jersey Builders Association is taking advantage of “green” practices in their planning and preparation for ABC. Convention registration is available online (www.abconvention.com), the majority of its marketing efforts are being done electronically, bus trips are being coordinated and promoted for transit to the show, trolley service is being offered for show participants from the host hotels to the Convention Center, exhibit floor furnishings and props are made from ecologically-friendly products, and name badges are being recycled following the show’s conclusion.

Even the venue – the Atlantic City Convention Center – is incorporating green initiatives, including: the installation of the largest single roof-mounted solar array in the US, the incorporation of energy conservation practices throughout the facility, utilization of energy generated by local wind turbines, use of environmentally friendly products (including office supplies), and incorporation of facility-wide recycling efforts – the impact of which has been significant.

“The marketing incentives offered by ABC to its ‘green’ vendors have been considerable. Providing complimentary and exclusive listings in all promotional materials and on the Convention’s website means a great deal for companies looking to stretch their marketing dollars,” said Eileen Monesson of Cowan, Gunteski & Co. P.A., an ABC “green” exhibitor. “ABC is the premier trade show of its kind in this region. Because of the caliber of the show and its attendees, it’s the one we can’t afford to miss.”
