November 5, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Assemblymen John Amodeo and Vince Polistina, both R-Atlantic, said today that taxpayers should be outraged that none of the proposals to fix New Jersey’s broken property tax system are scheduled to be heard by an Assembly committee on Monday.
“The Democratic leaders of the Assembly owe the people of New Jersey an apology for their continued inaction on the very serious problems facing our state, most notably the highest property taxes in the nation,” Amodeo said. “To relieve property taxpayers, we approved a hard cap with bipartisan support. That cap clamps down in less than two months, but Democratic leaders still refuse to work on measures that will allow governments to reduce costs.”
Instead of considering legislation that would reduce costs of public workers’ pensions and benefits, allow local governments to be more efficient and put Atlantic City on a path toward rebirth, the Democratic agenda includes reporting mandates on hospitals, electronic lottery tickets and parking at colleges.
“The Democratic agenda hardly reflects the harsh realities confronting our state,” Polistina said. “Taxpayers should be livid that the Democrats still refuse to do the work that we were all sent to Trenton to accomplish. Instead of showing leadership during difficult times, they are demonstrating disdain for the people we represent. If we do not enact real property tax reform by Jan. 1, the cap won’t work, property taxes will continue to rise and Democratic legislators will be responsible.”
