At 19, while many of his peers were still figuring out what they wanted to do with their lives, Shawn Clayton finished closing his first million dollar bayfront home in Toms River.
“My father was alongside me at the time,” Clayton said. “You can imagine at 19 years old selling a property for a million dollars say 30 years ago. That really made me focus 100 percent on real estate.”
In July, Clayton will be celebrating the 85th anniversary of Clayton & Clayton Realtors, and while the real estate market has drastically changed since 1930, the business is still very much family-oriented.
“Think about it … What companies last 85 years? We’re in the ma and pa business of the luxury market. Everything else has been swallowed up by franchise,” Clayton said. “(At our business), you can still sit down, and have a true discussion with one of the Claytons.”
