New York, N.Y. – July 2, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has extended the public comment period for its proposed cleanup plan to address contaminated soil on residential properties at the Sherwin-Williams/Hilliards Creek Superfund site in Gibbsboro and Voorhees, N.J to August 1, 2015. The original public comment period for the cleanup plan was scheduled to end July 2, but the EPA is extending the comment period in response to a request from the public.

The site includes a former paint manufacturing plant and the waters of Hilliards Creek which flow into Kirkwood Lake. The soil and the groundwater beneath the former paint manufacturing site are contaminated with lead, arsenic and volatile organic compounds. Sediment in and near Hilliards Creek are contaminated with lead and arsenic. The EPA is proposing to address contaminated soil on approximately 33 residential properties in Gibbsboro and Voorhees. The EPA proposal calls for a combination of removing and treating the contaminated soil. The EPA held a public meeting on June 11, 2015 to explain the proposed plan.
