December 13, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Assembly Republican Deputy Conference Leader Scott Rumana, R-Passaic, Bergen and Essex, issued the statement below regarding approval today by the Assembly Housing & Local Government Committee of Democrat COAH legislation, A-3447, that still contains bonus density, which allows developers to build more housing than a municipality and taxpayers can support:
“COAH is horrific public policy that has wreaked havoc on municipalities and driven property taxes to excessive levels. While I appreciate that this bill rightly eliminates the Council on Affordable Housing, it still contains bonus density which will result in overdevelopment, excessive increases to the property tax burden for our citizens and further destroy our state’s valuable open space.
“It is also highly disturbing that Democrats rammed this amended bill through committee without allowing adequate time for members to view its contents. Our taxpayers deserve better government.”
