New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Takes Action Against Seven Illegal “Mortgage Loan Modification”...
NEWARK, NJ - August 3, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Continuing the State’s on-going efforts to thwart fraudulent “mortgage loan modification” enterprises, Attorney General Paula T. Dow and the State Division of Consumer Affairs filed administrative actions against seven businesses for illegally offering mortgage modification services to homeowners in dire financial straits. State law requires that anyone providing these services in New Jersey be licensed as a Debt Adjuster by the Department of Banking and Insurance, or be otherwise authorized.

Taylor announced that a Paulsboro woman who formerly worked as a local administrator of the New Jersey Home Energy Assistance (HEA) Program was sentenced to state prison today for defrauding the program of more than $20,000 by filing false applications to obtain benefits. In addition, a second former local administrator of the program pleaded guilty today to stealing over $40,000 in program benefits through the submission of fraudulent benefit applications.
DCA & HMFA Break Ground on 90-Unit Affordable Apartment Community in Newark
NEWARK, N.J. - July 15, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA) Executive Director Anthony Marchetta today joined City of Newark Mayor Cory Booker and local officials to break ground on Baxter Park, an affordable apartment community to be located at 39-47 Sussex Avenue near Newark’s Broad Street Station District. The HMFA, an affiliate of the Department of Community Affairs (DCA), provided construction and permanent mortgage financing in the amount of $16,350,000 for the project. Baxter Park also is expected to be awarded federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits, which will generate approximately $10.2 million in private equity.
