Legislature to designate June as Community Development month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — The Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (the Network) is launching its first ever Community Development Spotlight series during the month of June. Throughout the state, the Network will partner with member organizations on events that showcase the scope of the work of New Jersey’s nonprofit community development sector.

“Our community development sector is one of the great American success stories,” said Blair Schleicher Bravo, president of the Network Board of Directors and chief executive officer of Morris Habitat for Humanity. “We are improving communities while creating millions of dollars of economic benefit and thousands of jobs throughout the state every year. Around the state, we will celebrate this important impact while acknowledging the ongoing need to make NJ a great place we can all afford to call home.”

The Community Development Spotlight series includes events in areas all across the state with a focus on various aspects of community development including homelessness prevention and services, economic development, community gardening, housing counseling, policy and advocacy, supportive and special needs housing, and much more.

“The state’s nonprofit community development sector generates $500 million annually for our economy; the social and economic impact is unprecedented,” said Staci Berger, president and chief executive officer of the Network. “Community developers are meeting the needs of the neighborhoods they serve through a variety of services with limited resources. Community Development Spotlight allows us the opportunity to celebrate their achievements while raising awareness on the breadth and depth of their work.”
