Menendez, Booker Announce Nearly $2M in Housing Grants for Jersey City, Paterson, Rahway, Phillipsburg

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 27, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today applauded the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) awarding of a combined $1,903.435.00 in Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Service Coordinator grants to assist New Jersey housing agencies and nonprofit organizations.

“This vital funding will help New Jersey communities meet their critical local housing needs, revitalize struggling neighborhoods and expand economic opportunity for all,” said Sen. Menendez, a member of the Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. “This essential federal funding will provide the necessary seed money for economic growth and development in New Jersey’s underserved communities, creating jobs and revitalizing our neighborhoods.”

“The federal investment announced today provides essential funding to help communities in need to grow, thrive and continue to empower their residents,” said Sen. Booker. “This grant will allow Jersey City, Rahway, Paterson, and Phillipsburg to stabilize neighborhoods and provide opportunity for families to pursue economic independence.”

Individual grant information follows:

• Elm-West Tenant Resident Corporation $246,000.00

• Housing Authority of the City of Jersey City $492,000.00

• Housing Authority of the City of Paterson $433,435.00

• Housing Authority of the City or Rahway $246,000.00

• New Jersey Institute for Disabilities $240,000.00

• Phillipsburg Housing Authority $246,000.00

The ROSS-SC program provides funding to hire Service Coordinators to coordinate supportive services and other activities designed to help public and Indian Housing residents achieve economic and housing self-sufficiency by providing grants to the Public Housing Assessment System, tribal housing, Rental Accommodation Scheme, and nonprofit organizations.
