League Statement on Christie Administration Affordable Housing Announcement

-

Trenton, NJ – May 13, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — The League has long championed a thorough reform of the Fair Housing Act, and advocated for a sustainable housing policy for all our communities, urban, suburban and rural. For well over a decade, New Jersey’s housing policy has failed our families and failed our taxpayers.

The League has long argued for the basic components of the necessary reform, on behalf of our municipalities and our taxpayers. The solution should avoid burdensome bureaucracy, offer a simple solution to affordable housing issues and lessen the cost of compliance on our taxpayers.

Today, the Governor took a significant step toward such reform.   The Governor’s proposal represents a new approach, offering a sustainable policy to promote affordable housing.

League Executive Director Bill Dressel offered the following statement,
“The concepts put forth today share much in common with S-1, sponsored by Senators Lesniak, Bateman and VanDrew, and offer the prospect for reform in a timely fashion.    The League will continue to work with the legislative sponsors and the Administration to assure that this reform provides for affordable housing, with less bureaucracy, while lessening the costs to our taxpayers.”
