Lautenberg, Menendez Announce $1.1 Million for State Veterans’ Home in Paramus

NEWARK – October 1, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) today announced $1,108,784 in federal funding for a construction project at the New Jersey Veterans’ Memorial Home in Paramus. The funding, provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, has been awarded to the State of New Jersey to replace the roofs on two buildings at the Paramus Memorial Home.

“This federal funding will help to ensure the Paramus Veterans’ Home continues to provide our vets with quality housing and support services,” said Senator Lautenberg, an Army veteran and member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “New Jersey’s veterans’ homes serve the men and women who fought bravely for our nation, and we will continue working to maintain and update these facilities.”

“We have an obligation to take care of the men and women who have so proudly served our country, especially as they enter their twilight years,” said Senator Menendez. “I’m pleased that this funding will help ensure that the long term care for our veterans is provided in a safe and secure environment.”

The Veterans’ Memorial Home in Paramus is one of three long-term care nursing homes operated by the New Jersey Division of Veterans Healthcare Services. The Paramus facility has two residential buildings, able to accommodate 336 residents. The facility was opened in 1986 to provide eligible veterans and their families with comprehensive services, including medical and nursing care. The facility is inspected and licensed annually by the state and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

In 2010, Senators Lautenberg and Menendez secured more than $2.2 million in federal funding for the Paramus Memorial Home through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for facility renovations and to upgrade the air ventilation system.
