Reps. Payne, Sires Introduce Legislation to Improve Transparency, Quality of Experience for Airline Consumers

WASHINGTON, D.C. –- (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) and Congressman Albio Sires (NJ-08), both members of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, introduced legislation that will create a more transparent and higher-quality experience for airline consumers by requiring air carriers to disclose the actual wheels-off and wheels-on time for certain domestic passenger flight segments.

“When airline passengers go to purchase tickets, they deserve to know the actual times the flights they are considering will take off and land,” said Congressman Payne, Jr. “This bill ensures that consumers have that information so they can make informed decisions about their travel plans and have a better overall experience.”

The bill would require the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to issue regulations to require air carriers, during the course of a reservation or ticketing discussion or other inquiry, to disclose to consumers the projected period between the actual wheels-off and wheels-on times for a reportable flight. The bill also requires air carriers to display on their public websites information on the actual wheels-off and wheels-on times for a reportable flight.

“Planning a trip requires a lot of coordination and, when looking at flight itineraries, Americans have the right to know exactly when flights are departing and when they are arriving,” said Congressman Sires. “This common-sense legislation gives millions of travelers access to the information they need to make informed decisions about the flights they pay for.”
