O’Scanlon Lauds $37.8 Million School Construction Grants for Monmouth County Schools

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 5, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Assembly Republican Budget Officer Declan O’Scanlon today called the announcement by the Christie administration that Monmouth County will receive $37.8 million in school facilities grants “welcome news” for the Jersey Shore county.

The $37.8 million will support 171 projects in 26 school districts in Monmouth County which will support a total of $94.4 million in school construction throughout the county.

“This is an excellent and needed investment in the schools and children of Monmouth County,” said O’Scanlon, R-Monmouth. “This funding will allow for state-of-the-art facilities for our students, resulting in a safe and efficient learning environment that will enhance their opportunities for success.

“The partnership between state and local governments demonstrates how important it is for different levels of government to collaborate on addressing the needs of schools,” he continued. “Such partnerships not only benefit our students, teachers and administrators, but taxpayers as well as they help ease the local property tax burden. They help make the projects more affordable for township residents.”

The Christie administration announced on Wednesday the approval of $507.7 million in state funds to help fund the cost of 1,538 school construction projects in 331 school districts throughout the state.
