WHAT:

In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life, vision, and commitment to public service, NJCDC’s Paterson Youth Council is hosting the Dr. Martin Luther King Youth Recognition Breakfast. There, the Paterson Youth Council will bestow the MLK Youth Recognition Awards upon several young people, one adult, and one youth-serving organization who have made a difference in Paterson through their commitment to the ideals and virtues espoused by Dr. King.

WHO:

The Paterson Youth Council, facilitated by NJCDC, is a citywide youth-led and youth-driven civic organization. Through service learning and community involvement, members cultivate confidence, independence, maturity, leadership skills, and a voice of their own. At the Breakfast, the Paterson Youth Council will be honoring several young people, one adult, and one youth-serving organization from the City of Paterson. Last year’s Youth Recognition Breakfast was a resounding success attended by some of the City’s and State’s most influential dignitaries, including New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, State Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Congressman Bill Pascrell, State Senator Nellie Pou, and Paterson Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres.

WHY:

The Youth Council has decided that the holiday in honor of Dr. King is an appropriate time to recognize some of the city’s most committed and community-minded young people and adults, and a youth-serving organization.

New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC) is dedicated to creating opportunities to transform lives within the Great Falls Neighborhood of Paterson, NJ. NJCDC is a private, non-profit community development and social service agency focusing on youth development, education, affordable& supportive housing, and community and economic development.
