Menendez, Booker Announce $1.8M in Federal Grants for New Jersey Fire Departments
Awards for Departments in Pemberton, Garfield, Phillipsburg, Wanaque, Wall, Manchester, Pleasantville
WASHINGTON, DC – July 23, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) today announced a combined $1,837,013 in federal grants to improve safety and operations and add firefighters in local fire departments across New Jersey. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) and Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) programs are administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“These federal grants will help ensure New Jersey fire departments are adequately staffed and our firefighters properly equipped to protect both themselves and the communities they serve,” said Sen. Menendez. “Our first responders put their lives on the line each day and we must make certain that they have the resources they need to save lives.”
“Fire departments need properly trained and equipped staff to adequately protect our communities and keep New Jerseyans safe,” said Sen. Booker. “I’m grateful that these resources are being directed to our state and I’ll keep working to make sure this support is available to all New Jersey fire departments.”

For safety and operations
• $210,455 Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company
Manchester, N.J.
To purchase new personal protective equipment, breathing apparatus and two new thermal cameras
The following SAFER Grant was announced:
• $760,905 Pleasantville Fire Department
Pleasantville, N.J.
To re-hire three firefighters
The AFG program and its SAFER component help strengthen the ability of local fire departments to respond to fires and other dangers. These projects were funded under the Operations and Safety portion of the program which funds training, equipment and supplies that support the safety and operational effectiveness of fire departments.
