The party will display the features of the homes to the media at the ceremony. The rehabilitated homes feature hardwood floors, private entrances, and large backyards. They are less than a five-minute walk from transportation and access to Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and other job centers. Each house has three bedrooms, three baths, and is priced at less than $140,000. The project was done on City-owned land that was conveyed to the ULEC.
Littleton Homes is ULEC’s first rehabilitation project, and is part of a comprehensive plan to revitalize the Fairmount neighborhood funded with support from the Wells Fargo Foundation. Construction was done by the local African-American construction firm MidAtlantic Alliance, LLC, and Newark architect Joe Asfour. RCG, Inc. provided both development and construction management oversight of the project. Funding came from a partnership of ULEC, the City of Newark, and the Greater Newark Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). Littleton Avenue is the focus of the ULEC’s Model Block initiative to improve quality of life in the Fairmount neighborhood.
