WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 20, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Mayor John G. Ducey is proud to announce the kickoff of a pilot program for a Community Garden in Brick. The pilot program will provide 10 raised garden beds located at the Township’s Havens Homestead (Havens Farm) property on Herbertsville Road. The garden beds are available to Township residents who do not have an area available to them for growing their own flowers, fruits and vegetables. The Mayor said he believes this is a great opportunity for households who wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to experience growing their own food and adding those healthy foods to their dinner table.
The Mayor thanked the Brick Garden Club for its guidance in helping to develop the project and for its’ continued assistance. He also thanked the Brick Home Depot for its’ generous donation of the lumber for the beds. “If this pilot program is successful, we would like to expand the program next year,” said Mayor Ducey.
Beds will be available on or about June 1, 2015 until October 31, 2015 at a cost of $20.00 for the season. Applications will be available on the Township’s Website and can be either completed and submitted online or delivered to the Township by May 26, 2015. Depending on the number of applicants, the beds will be assigned on a first come first served basis or a lottery. A meeting will be announced and held at Haven’s Farm prior to June 1st to address rules and regulations.
In addition to seeking applicants for the beds, the Township is also looking for volunteers to help establish and maintain the garden area. Please visit the Township’s Website, www.bricktownship.net, for further information and application instructions to apply for a garden bed or to volunteer.
