Washington, DC – December 08, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Tom MacArthur today announced the inclusion of his natural gas access and infrastructure legislation in the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act of 2015 that recently passed the full House of Representatives.
MacArthur’s bill, the National Energy Security Corridors Act (NESCA), would enhance the reliability and reach of the nation’s energy infrastructure by thoughtfully identifying natural gas pipeline routes on federal lands, in order to move natural gas from west to east. This legislation will require and empower the Department of the Interior to designate transmission corridors within two years for natural gas pipelines, as it already does for other related infrastructure including electric lines, telephone lines, and water pipelines.
As temperatures drop across the country and many Americans turn their heat on for the first time all year, residents in New Jersey will see vastly different prices than residents from other states, including parts of neighboring Pennsylvania. For example, in February of 2015, New Jersey residents were paying 15 times the rate that Pennsylvania residents were due to a lack of pipeline infrastructure.
“This bill will help to rein in out-of-control energy costs in the Northeast and bring our nations’ energy policy into the 21st century,” said Congressman MacArthur. “South Jersey residents should never have to choose between heating their homes and other key priorities like a quality education or affordable healthcare. My legislation will help to lower home energy costs, improve infrastructure and create good-paying local jobs, and will also ensure that natural gas pipeline construction meets rigorous environmental standards and requires thoughtful placement of pipelines.”
