Lt. Governor Guadagno Serves Easter Meals with Samaritan Homeless Interim Program
Trenton, NJ – April 6, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — In the spirit of the Easter season, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and her son today joined Assemblywoman Donna Simon and the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program (SHIP) to serve Easter meals to individuals and families in need in Somerset County.
“I am proud to join the volunteers at SHIP who cheerfully give their time to provide a hot meal to individuals and families in their community,” said Lt. Governor Guadagno. “They serve their neighbors throughout the year and are outstanding examples of the enormous impact volunteerism can have on the lives of our residents in need.”
SHIP began operations in 1984 to provide its community with emergency housing and associated programs, including advocacy, interim counseling and other services to support self-sufficiency. Since 1984, SHIP has served more than 100,000 people.
“SHIP is an amazing community service that helps provide essential services to those in need,” said Assemblywoman Simon. “Hard times fall on so many individuals and families. Serving outside ourselves is what makes our communities strong. I am proud to help in any way that I can, especially on days like today.”
At Christmas in 1991, SHIP began serving Holiday Meals free of charge at the United Reformed Church in Somerville. The Program has since provided more than 10,800 meals to holiday guests.
“I have worked with Lt. Governor Guadagno before and know she is someone who truly cares. We are thrilled to have her join us for Easter,” said Tom O’Leary, CEO & Executive Director of SHIP. “It’s encouraging to have the entire community from top to bottom serving the poor and bringing sunlight into the lives of people who are going through a difficult time.”
