Division of Taxation to Hold Elizabeth Property Revaluation Hearing
TRENTON – (RealEstateRama) — The New Jersey Division of Taxation will conduct a public hearing this month to allow citizens of Elizabeth to voice their opinions about property taxes as part of its investigation into whether to order the Union County municipality to begin a property revaluation.
The hearing will convene at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at Union County College in the theater located at the Sidney F. Lessner Building at 12 West Jersey St. in Elizabeth. The public hearing will allow Division representatives to hear public comments regarding the value of taxable property in Elizabeth. Dennis Shilling, Deputy Director of Operations, and Patricia Wright, Deputy Director of Compliance & Enforcement and Property Administration, will conduct the hearing on behalf of the Division.
In November, the Division issued letters to the municipal governments of Elizabeth, Jersey City and Dunellen informing them that it will conduct an investigation in accordance with N.J.S.A. 54:1-26 to determine whether to order a revaluation of the properties within their boundaries.
Elizabeth has not had a property revaluation in 39 years. Jersey City has been delinquent by 27 years, and Dunellen has not had a revaluation in 33 years. Public hearings also will be held at a later date in Jersey City and Dunellen.
Elizabeth residents also may submit written comments to the Division at PropReval (at) treas.nj (dot) gov or to the following address:
