DANCER BILL EXTENDING SENIOR FREEZE BENEFITS TO DISABLED PASSES COMMITTEE

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 14, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — Disabled federal employees who are not eligible for the state’s senior freeze property tax reimbursement program because they receive disability retirement benefits from the federal government are one step closer to relief today. A bill sponsored by Assemblyman Ron Dancer (A4130) extending the senior freeze program to disabled former federal employees, was released today by the Assembly State and Local Government Committee.

“There are people who aren’t receiving relief simply because they worked for the federal government,” said Dancer (R-Ocean). “Disabilities make a fixed income even more difficult to live on than it already is. Anything the state can do to help is a priority.”

The Senior Freeze program is available only to disabled persons who receive Social Security disability payments. Since disabled former federal employees, hired before January 1, 1984, paid into a federal retirement system rather than Social Security, they are not eligible for the state’s senior freeze program.
