WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 14, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, R-Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex and Mercer, is outraged by the report recently issued by the League of Municipalities’ Property Tax Reform Task Force. The report recommended the state revamp its income tax system in order to raise more revenue to reduce property taxes.

“Instead of focusing on an area that is totally unrealistic, not to mention unfair to taxpayers, the League needs to get up to speed on real reforms,” said Ciattarelli. “The kind of analysis it should be doing is examining municipal consolidations, such as what was achieved in Princeton, or the regional policing that occurred in Camden County.”
“This report gives every appearance that the League’s sole focus is a constant advocacy for the status quo, including the self-preservation of 565 separate municipal entities and a local government system marked by duplicative services that are overtly inefficient,” continued Ciattarelli. “Status quo does not translate into reform. Status quo is a disservice to the municipalities for whom the League advocates.”
