Congressman Andrews Announces over 3M for Jobs Repairing South Jersey Public Housing
HADDON HEIGHTS, N.J. – August 16, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — This week, Congressman Andrews announced over three million dollars in capital funds that will create and maintain jobs making large scale improvements such as new roofs, plumbing upgrades, and upgrades to electrical systems for the housing authorities of the Boroughs of Clementon, Collingswood, Glassboro, Gloucester County, Gloucester City, Haddon Township, and the City of Camden. Congressman Andrews cast his vote in strong support of these funds that are part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Capital Fund Program.
The $300 million that went to the first district of New Jersey serves countless families, including seniors, and allows for the continued employment of contactors, plumbers, electricians, and construction workers. Gloucester County was awarded $325,729 that it will use for ongoing projects to update houses, repair walls in Carino Park, and upgrade the Deptford Park entry doors. In the City of Camden over $300,000 of the $2,200,378 awarded will be used to complete the McGuire Gardens Community Facility that will contain adult and youth trade programs as well as a Head-Start Program.
“These grants are putting people to work in South Jersey making the much needed repairs that are improving the lives of many families and senior citizens,” said Congressman Andrews. “Updating and maintaining the safety and soundness of the buildings in our communities is a crucial part of our economic recovery.”
For the last 75 years, the federal government has invested in the creation and maintenance of public and multifamily housing, allotting 1.7 billion nationally per year. Congressman Andrews has been a lifelong supporter of New Jersey’s housing authorities and is constantly working to create and maintain valuable jobs throughout the state.
