City of Trenton Will Hold Two Tax Forums for Property Owners Seeking More Information and Options About Assessments
Trenton, N.J. – (RealEstateRama) — The City of Trenton will hold two Tax Task Force Community Forums in the Council Chambers at City Hall on August 29 and 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for commercial and residential property owners who have questions about their tax assessments, Mayor Eric E. Jackson announced today.
“The citywide revaluation is an ongoing process of education and communication, which is why we are holding these two important forums,” said Mayor Jackson. “My administration is committed to ensuring tax fairness for all Trentonians, and we are equally committed to working toward solutions for those residents who may now face tax challenges.”
The forums are organized into two parts: education to provide information about the assessments, and one-on-one meetings in which property owners can meet with representatives from the city’s Tax Assessor’s office and Appraisals Systems, the company that conducted the revaluation of more than 30,000 residential and commercial properties in the city. Attendees who want to meet one-on-one must preregister by calling (609) 989-3083. For property owners who cannot attend the forums, representatives from the Tax Assessor’s Office are available for 30 minute meetings by appointment beginning on September 5-8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please phone the Assessor’s office to schedule.
The forums are designed to educate attendees about the revaluation process, review correspondence and materials that were sent to property owners, give them a chance to learn about options for appealing their assessments, and meet one-on-one with city tax officials and representatives from Appraisal Systems, Inc.
In 2010, the Mercer County Board of Taxation ordered Trenton municipal government to conduct a citywide revaluation of more than 30,000 residential and commercial properties in the city. The last revaluation was in 1992. New Jersey-based Appraisal Systems, which has done this work in numerous other municipalities in the state, was hired to undertake the comprehensive analysis. Preliminary assessments were mailed to property owners earlier this year, and the appeals process was extended to May 30.
