Trenton – November 19, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The Christie Administration today announced seven grants totaling $1,933,000 through the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Local Aid Infrastructure Fund (LAIF) program to help municipalities in seven counties advance safety and pavement reconstruction projects.

The grants bring the total distributed this calendar year under the LAIF program to $5.3 million.

LAIF grants are among about a dozen Local Aid grant programs administered by the New Jersey Department of Transportation that utilize state or federal funds to provide direct support to municipalities and counties, enabling local governments to advance important projects without burdening local property taxpayers.

These Local Aid grants will reach nearly $200 million in FY 14, and fall under the NJDOT’s $415 million Local System Support program that includes funding for local lead projects as well as funding to regional transportation planning organizations.

Municipalities apply for LAIF grants on an as-needed basis throughout the year. The Department awards grants periodically based on the availability of funding and the strength of the application.

The LAIF grants announced today range in size from $43,000 for emergency road repairs due to a water main break in Rockaway Township (Morris County) to $450,000 to Phillipsburg (Warren County) for a pavement, curb, and sidewalk project. The other grant recipients are Quinton (Salem County), Harrison (Gloucester County), Jackson (Ocean County), Hillside (Union County), and Woodbine (Cape May County).
