Norcross Calls for ‘Lineman Appreciation Month’ in Wake of South Jersey Storm

Cherry Hill, NJ – June 25, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — As efforts to restore power throughout South Jersey continue, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) urged his former colleagues in the New Jersey Legislature to approve a resolution he championed last fall establishing October as “Lineman Appreciation Month.” Norcross sponsored the resolution in honor of the men and women who work tirelessly to provide safe and reliable utility service. The provision passed the State Senate unanimously and is expected for a vote in the Assembly tomorrow.

“In the aftermath of yesterday’s storm, there are literally hundreds of linemen – many who worked through the night – with the single goal of restoring power throughout South Jersey,” said Congressman Norcross. “When severe weather forces many to find safety indoors, it is our linemen who brave dangerous conditions to keep the lights on. Linemen work long hours in extreme and dangerous conditions to restore power after widespread outages. This bill recognizes the important role our linemen play and it’s only fitting that it be considered now as residents eagerly await their power to be restored by these skilled workers.”

Senate Resolution SJR60 recognizes the vital services linemen provide to the residents of New Jersey. The provision highlights the dangers associated with employment as a lineman, often having to work in risky conditions with high powered voltage that can cause serious injury or death. The resolution honors the steadfast skill and experience associated with the trade, as well as the important training and safety courses that our lineman must complete.

If approved, “Linemen Appreciation Month” will be marked with appropriate activities and programs to raise awareness of the vital role linemen play in our society. Click here to view the full text of Senate Resolution SJR60.
