New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA) Executive Director Anthony L. Marchetta today announced the award of $31.9 million in federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs), which will generate $319 million in investment capital to build more than 1,700 rental units across New Jersey.

The six approved projects were selected based on FRM Program guidelines for the program's third round. In the first and second FRM rounds, HMFA allocated $359 million of federal Sandy recovery funds to create approximately 3,180 units of affordable housing.

The grant for the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs is specifically provided by HUD-VASH’s Extraordinary Administrative Fees (EAF) program. The EAF program is providing 52 public housing agencies across the country with a total of $5.4 million in funding to support innovative practices and develop tools to administer the HUD-VASH program and reduce the amount of time that it takes for a veteran to locate and move into permanent housing.

The New Jersey Wind Energy Area’s 343,833 offshore acres has the potential to support at least 3,400 megawatts of commercial wind energy generation. According to the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, this could power an estimated 1.2 million homes. The development area starts about seven nautical miles from shore.
