Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority Celebrates Environmental Excellence

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 4, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority, which provides drinking water to several municipalities and oversees the county programs for solid and hazardous waste disposal and recycling, celebrated environmental excellence during an award ceremony on April 30, 2015 at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

The award recipients included Bayer Healthcare, Robin Dente, the assistant administrator for Hanover Township, and the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee for the documentary “River’s Journey,” which chronicles the Whippany River’s recovery from pollution.

Christina Notas, Sustainability Coordinator, Drew University, was honored for spearheading the university’s green initiatives and for fostering a culture of environmentalism.

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Flanders, and Casio America, Inc., Dover, both received awards for excellent recycling programs within large businesses.

John Coronato, the property manager for Knoll Gardens Apartments, was nominated by the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township’s recycling department and received an award for turning a nonexistent recycling program into an outstanding one.

Two area students were award recipients for their innovative environmental programs. Amanda Bloom, Randolph, shared her love of dance by creating the program “A Chance to Dance,” which collected over 500 pairs of gently used dance shoes for low income students, and Liam Nash, of Delbarton School, created the website www.greenretailalliance.com, to help combat excessive retail waste.

Chatham Borough took top honors in the municipal category, for an outstanding community-recycling program.

Glenn Schweizer, Executive Director of the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority, announced that Natalie Levine, Morristown High School, would be receiving the Maraziti, Falcon Environmental Excellence Scholarship, for her qualifications and passion for the environment. This prestigious award has been issued annually by the law firm of Maraziti, Falcon, LLP, Livingston, NJ.

Liz Sweedy, Senior Recycling Specialist with the Morris County Municipality Utilities Authority, thanked Tricia Goginski, Ecology Club Advisor, and her students from Morris Knolls High School for putting on a fashion show during the awards ceremony. She also announced that the “Slam Dunk the Junk” poster contest winners were Claire Anderson, Ridgedale Middle School, Florham Park; Madison O’Donnell, West Morris Central High School; Sammi Chan, Morris Hills High School; and Corinne Troccoli, Morris Hills High School.
