Congressman Andrews Announces $50k to Repair Homes in Gloucester County
Haddon Heights, NJ – December 16, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Last week, Congressman Andrews announced $50,000 in federal money that will create skilled trade jobs in South Jersey. These funds will help improve the homes of low-income homeowners in rural areas throughout Gloucester County and make these homes safer by providing much needed repairs. This past September, Congressman Andrews casted his vote in favor of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Housing Preservation Grant Program which will provide the funds.
In this economy, many people find it difficult to maintain their homes. Homes suffering from heating, electrical, plumbing or structural problems not only burden the families in the home, but they also burden the community by driving down property values and business prospects. This funding will allow low income residents of Gloucester County to receive an interest free, deferred payment loan from the county for the purpose of making repairs to their home. This effort will help sustain communities in Gloucester County for future generations.
“Not only will these projects create jobs for people at a time when unemployment is such a burden, but it will also strengthen communities and provide safety to the families living there,” said Congressman Andrews. “Safety is not a luxury item and hard-working Americans deserve a chance to provide a safe and healthy environment for their children.”
This year, over $9 million in housing preservation grants have been awarded nationwide for the purpose of making critical repairs and improving housing conditions for low-income rural residents. As middle class families face the toughest economic times since the Great Depression, Congressman Andrews will continue to support programs like the Housing Preservation Grant Program to ensure that Americans that work hard have a chance at the American dream.
