Firm Welcomes Back 30-Year Industry Veteran, Location Advisory Specialist

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – July 13, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Lee Winter has re-joined commercial real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. in East Rutherford, as a director in its Global Business Consulting Group’s Business Incentives Practice. He brings nearly three decades of industry experience – including more than 15 years in the location advisory services arena – to his new position.

Winter is working in coordination with Cushman & Wakefield’s leasing professionals on tenant representation assignments, negotiating and acquiring economic incentives from various government economic development agencies. His geographic concentration will be Northeastern U.S. He previously served in the same capacity at Cushman & Wakefield from 1998 to 2002, during which time he procured more than $50 million in economic incentives for the firm’s clients.

“Overseas and domestic competition has created an environment in which economic incentives are a key factor in a company’s real estate decision,” Winter said. “At the same time, as state and local governments work to position themselves to attract and retain business, they are operating under tight budget constraints. Our job is to find opportunities and develop the best solutions for our clients.”

Winter’s background also includes leasing, construction management and development. Most recently, he worked at the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), where he was responsible for attracting and retaining large corporations to New York City. There, he specialized in negotiating economic incentives packages that included capital grants, sales tax abatements, real estate tax exemptions, energy discounts and IDA Bond allocations.

While at NYCEDC, Winter worked on many of the largest discretionary economic incentive packages involving headquarters relocations and new development transactions, including the headquarters transactions for Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch and other public-private partnerships. He also served as director of leasing and was responsible for NYCEDC’s 4 million-square-foot portfolio of industrial, office and retail properties.

“Lee is among the most knowledgeable professionals in his niche,” said Gualberto “Gil” Medina, Cushman & Wakefield’s New Jersey executive managing director. “As Cushman & Wakefield works to strengthen its position as a strategic partner for clients, his skills set provides tremendous advantage. We welcome him back to the private sector.”

Winter earned an MBA in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Denison University in Ohio. He is a

licensed salesperson in New York and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. He is an active volunteer at the Newark Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program.
