DIMAIO DENOUNCES SPENDING BILLS THAT TAXPAYERS CANNOT AFFORD

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 22, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Despite already having the highest taxes in the nation, the New Jersey Assembly Appropriations Committee approved several bills earlier this week that will cost taxpayers more than $15 million.

“I cannot understand how the majority party can continue to add more and more to the taxpayers’ burden when we cannot keep up with our current obligations,” said Assemblyman John DiMaio (R-23), Republican Appropriations Officer. “Where do they think we are going to come up with this money?”

The released bills include a measure that would provide zero percent loans to certain public workers purchasing a home in select municipalities at a cost of $5 million, a $6 million proposal to expand the free school breakfast program and a $2.5 million appropriation for electronic monitoring of domestic violence offenders. Several others have an undetermined cost and no designated funding source.

“Some of the programs being proposed might be worthwhile, but we just can’t afford them.” DiMaio continued. “This is the worst possible time to be adding more expenses when the only possible revenue source is the over-taxed struggling citizens.”

DiMaio would rather see the state establish a realistic means of projecting revenue and require that any new expenditure have a designated funding source.
