NJCDC’s AmeriCorps program to hold Day of Service on Global Youth Service Day

WHAT: WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — In celebration of Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), New Jersey Community Development Corporation’s (NJCDC) AmeriCorps program will be hosting a day of gardening and community cleanup service projects within Paterson’s Great Falls Promise Neighborhood–the neighborhood NJCDC serves.

NJCDC’s CEO Bob Guarasci will kick-off the event at 10 a.m. at School #5.  Service projects will be held there, as well as at the following locations: Community Charter School of Paterson (CCSP), John F. Kennedy Educational Complex (JFK)/Westside Park, and School #2.  In addition, NJCDC’s AmeriCorps VISTA program will be hosting information sessions on recycling at CCSP and JFK.

The AmeriCorps program will have 150-200 youth, community partners, and current and former NJCDC program participants joining them in impactful service, improving the lives of Paterson residents.

The event is also part of Operation Clean Sweep, a collective of Global Youth Service Day projects held by Paterson nonprofits.  Together, Operation Clean Sweep aims to recruit more than 500 youth in service on Global Youth Service Day.

WHO: This national service day will engage more than 200 youth, community partners, and current and former NJCDC program participants in meaningful service revitalizing Paterson’s Great Falls Promise Neighborhood.
   
WHY: Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to the contributions that children and youth make 365 days of the year.

GYSD is celebrated each year in more than 135 countries, with young people working together–and with schools, youth organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, national service programs, government agencies, and adult mentors–to address the world’s most critical issues and change their communities.
