WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. — (RealEstateRama) — Greater Bergen Community Action’s (GBCA) Weatherization Assistance Program is open to both homeowners and renters. If determined eligible, the GBCA Weatherization Department will perform a home energy audit to assess the weatherization needs of the home.

The program can provide a wide variety of services, such as weather stripping, insulating, installing or repairing windows and doors, replacing inefficient refrigerators, changing CO detectors, lining chimneys, even replacing your boiler or furnace, if needed, and more. This work is done at no charge to the resident. Landlords are required to pay half the cost of heating-related work (e.g., furnace). However, non heating-related work is still done for free in all cases.

While there are income limits (200% of the poverty level), households where at least one member receives TANF, SSI, Food Stamps or an Adoption Subsidy are deemed to be Categorically Eligible. Categorical Eligibility means that households are determined to be eligible despite a total household income which may exceed the income guidelines.

Please see the attached brochure provided by GBCA. If you have any questions, please call the Weatherization Department at 973-546-1441 or 973-685-0005, Ext 3, and speak with Melanie or logon to www.greaterbergen.org/home-energy for an application.
