Brick Council Passes Amendment to Assist Residents Elevating Their Homes

Washington, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — The Brick Township Council passed an amendment Tuesday which removes as many unnecessary barriers as possible for people elevating their homes. The amendment to Chapter 245 – Permitted Yard Encroachments, allows for access to staircases with an entry stoop or platform not to exceed a total 100 square feet in area and no further than 5 feet into a required rear yard setback area.

“The ordinance eases restrictions so that those raising their homes do not need to go for variances before the Board of Adjustments,” said Brick Mayor John G. Ducey. “This saves homeowners money on fees and experts, and also lightens the Board of Adjustment’s caseload.”

The amendment is a recommendation of the Brick Township Council’s Land Use Committee, consisting of Council President Paul Mummolo, Councilwoman Lisa Crate, and Councilman Art Halloran.

“Brick has faced enough aggravation and inconvenience as a result of Superstorm Sandy,” said Councilman Halloran, a resident of Brick’s Barrier Island. “Hopefully this amendment will make it easier and less expensive for our neighbors who are raising their homes.”
