Division of Taxation to Hold Jersey City Property Revaluation Hearing

-

TRENTON – January 25, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The New Jersey Division of Taxation will conduct a public hearing this month to allow citizens of Jersey City to voice their opinions about property taxes as part of its investigation into whether to order the Hudson County municipality to begin a property revaluation.

The hearing will convene at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Hudson County Community College in the Culinary Conference Center, Scott Ring Room, Second Floor, 161 Newkirk St., Jersey City, New Jersey

The public hearing will allow Division representatives to hear public comments regarding the value of taxable property in Jersey City. Dennis Shilling, Deputy Director of Operations, and Patricia Wright, Deputy Director of Compliance & Enforcement and Property Administration, will conduct the hearing on behalf of the Division.

In November, the Division issued letters to the municipal governments of Elizabeth, Jersey City and Dunellen informing them that it will conduct an investigation in accordance with N.J.S.A. 54:1-26 to determine whether to order a revaluation of the properties within their boundaries.

Elizabeth has not had a property revaluation in 39 years. Jersey City has been delinquent by 27 years, and Dunellen has not had a revaluation in 33 years. A public hearing was held Jan. 20 in Elizabeth. A public hearing will be held at a later date in Dunellen.

In lieu of attending the hearing, Jersey City residents may submit written comments to the Division at PropReval (at) treas.nj (dot) gov or to the following address:
