Congressman Norcross Announces $150,000 Federal Grant for Homeless Vets’ Job Training

-

Cherry Hill, NJ – Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced today that the Volunteers of America-Delaware Valley, Inc. (VOA) received a $150,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide homeless veterans with job training so they may successfully transition into sustainable housing and quality employment.

“There’s no question that those who fought for our country served with dignity,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “It is now our duty as beneficiaries of their bravery to stand up for our veterans and I’m proud to say that this federal grant will finally help them get the tools they need to get back on their feet.”

The VOA’s $150,000 award is part of a $35 million grant program announced earlier today by U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez. Under the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, grants are awarded on a competitive basis to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, and tribal governments, including faith-based and community organizations. Homeless veterans may receive occupational, classroom and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance.

The DOL stated that HVRP will help over 16,000 veterans nationwide and is the only federal program that focuses exclusively on employment of homeless veterans.
