WASHINGTON, DC – June 2, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ) today announced a combined $704,900 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants for improvements at Lakewood and Essex County Airports.

“Since our state’s economy thrives on a modern, efficient transportation system, we need to continually improve our aging infrastructure and ensure our airports are well-equipped to keep everyone safe,” said Sen. Menendez. “Investing in our airports keeps travel safe and reliable, creates jobs and boosts our economic competitiveness.”

“The federal funding announced today is necessary for improvements to the Lakewood and Essex County Airports,” said Sen. Booker. “This type of investment is vital to ensuring the safety of local residents and visitors, and growing the regional economy. I look forward to continuing my work with Sen. Menendez to bring back the necessary means to address the needs of airports across our state.”

The grants include:

$405,000 to the Township of Lakewood to fund the final phase for construction of a taxiway at Lakewood Airport serving the Runway 24 end.

$163,800 to the Township of Lakewood to fund the second and final phase for the acquisition of 2.66 acres of land adjacent to Lakewood Airport to enhance protection for the Runway 6 approach. The acquisition of portions of two parcels within the Runway 6 Safety Area will allow the currently displaced Runway 6 threshold to be moved back to the end of the pavement.

$135,900 to the Essex County Improvement Authority to fund the design phase for rehabilitation of 3,721 feet of pavement on Runway 10/28 at Essex County Airport in Caldwell that is needed to extend the useful life of the pavement.
