WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 11, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Mayor John G. Ducey is proud to announce that his next Mayor In Night event will be held on Monday, May 11 from 6pm until 8pm at the Brick Township Civic Plaza, 270 Chambers Bridge Road.  Citizens will have the opportunity to meet Mayor Ducey, Township Department Heads and officials and discuss Township matters.  Department and division heads from the Township will also be on hand to provide assistance to citizens.  The event is open to all residents of Brick Township.

“Many residents are not able to come to town hall during working hours due to their jobs or other commitments.  These evening sessions have been created to give these people and any other citizen the chance to meet me and township officials and share their thoughts and concerns with us,” said Mayor Ducey.

In addition, the Township will be hosting an outreach event for citizens impacted by FEMA’s Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps at the Civic Plaza at the same time.  Representative from various agencies will be on hand to assist residents.  They include:

• FEMA – Map Specialists, Federal Insurance and Mitigation Division
• NFIP
• SMARTVENT® – Risk Reduction Plus Team
• NJDEP – State Floodplain Administration
• Brick Township Floodplain Management & Engineering Department

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released the Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for Ocean County.  These proposed flood hazard determinations, if finalized, will become the basis for floodplain management measures that Brick must adopt to qualify to remain in the National Flood Insurance Program.  These maps can be viewed at the Township Municipal Building or online at www.region2coastal.com.  We are currently in a 90-day appeal period that is scheduled to end on June 30, 2015.  If you have not checked to see if your property will be affected by the proposed changes to the FIRM maps, we recommend that you do.

Private persons may appeal their flood zone designation provided that they have scientific or technical data for consideration.  Appeals must be applied for on-line at www.region2coastal.com/appeal.

Brick Township is hosting a FEMA/NFIP Outreach Event where welcome you to come and look up a flood zone designation, discuss the appeal process/qualifications for an appeal, discuss the status of a filed appeal, evaluate your Flood Elevation Certificate for your dwelling, discuss Mitigation Options for the Community and explore potential improvements that can be made to lower your flood insurance premiums.

Residents are advised to bring a copy of your flood elevation certificate if available.
