The Largest Privately-Owned Apartment Complex in New Jersey Gets a Makeover; Residents Call It a Little United Nations

VAILSBURG, N.J., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ — Ivy Hill Park Apartments, constructed in 1952 and home to 10,000 people, is getting a makeover.

Several months ago, the managers decided it was time for a makeover of what is the largest privately-owned complex in New Jersey. Residents of its 10 high-rise, 14-story buildings come from 40 countries and have called it a “little United Nations.” The design firm is MGT Design of Watchung, N.J.

“What struck me first about the Ivy Hill Park Apartments were the meticulous gardens,” says Anne Giacalone, one of the principals. “It signified pride in the place. These lovely gardens, serene walkways, and the overall diversity of the residents were inspirational to us.”

MGT Design had recently introduced its Sense of Place program to colleges and universities, including those located in urban settings. Giacalone says one of their booklets explaining this program was shown to the managers of Ivy Hill Apartments. They realized the concept of visually defining a place by accentuating its most positive assets could be applied to them.”

Two designers from MGT who previously worked in Newark on Bleeker Street, were quite familiar with the Ivy Hill area. They were excited about the opportunity of MGT Design working on this challenging rebranding project.

MGT is currently designing materials ranging from a new logo, seasonal outdoor banners, new marketing materials, signage as well as cosmetic architectural additions.

The development of a new web site is also planned. “This effort is intended to build on Ivy Hill Park Apartments’ rich and diverse heritage,” Giacalone says.
